Thanks to Green Daily, I may have found an alternative to tossing all of the poop my pets produce. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist the alliteration!)
We have two cats and a small dog, and a lot of poop to dispose of. We already use a sawdust cat litter (Feline Pine) and compostable bags to pick up Jasper’s poo. But we’re throwing it all in the trash, and I figured there had to be a better way — aside from flushing it and introducing it into the sewer system. I tried flushing cat litter waste once, and man, was it nasty.
Apparently there’s a way to build a dog poop composter. Sounds kind of gross, but I’m used to picking up the poop, so what’s one more step?
If the idea doesn’t totally gross Doug out, we may be in the backyard come warmer weather, building ourselves a poop composter. And I won’t feel guilty about where I put my pet poop!
[On a side note, we were on a walk with Jasper yesterday when I spotted a full poop bag left in someone's boulevard. Why on earth do people leave the bags behind? I picked it up and tossed it with ours -- I'd be seriously annoyed if someone left it in my boulevard. Take your pet's poop with you, people!]
